Former world champion Viswanathan Anand and five other leading Indian players will compete in an online chess exhibition on April 11 to raise funds for country’s fight against COVID-19.

Former world champion GM Viswanathan Anand, GMs Pentala Harikrishna, India’s number 2 Vidit Gujrathi, Baskaran Adhiban, Women’s rapid chess champion Koneru Humpy, and Harika Dronavalli will offer simultaneous exhibitions on Chess.com to support the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund.

All donations made during the stream will be sent to the Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund to fight COVID-19.

Viswanathan Anand is stuck in Germany owing to the travel restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic, he tweeted “Please support the Indian Chess Community’s support towards Covid 19 relief.”

“It is a privilege that we can play our sport from home and collect funds for a good cause,” Harika told PTI.

In order to participate in this exhibition players must have a Chess.com blitz or FIDE standard rating of under 2000 and will be required to make a donation during the registration process.

If someone wants to play game against Anand then:

  1. Player needs to make a minimum donation of USD 150. (USD 25 registration fetches the chance to play any two of the six Indian stars)
  2. The three biggest donors will get to play against Anand on additional boards during the live stream on chess.com.
