Tamil Nadu won their second Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy yesterday as they beat Baroda comfortably in the final. For captain Dinesh Karthik, life came full circle as he was the captain when Tamil Nadu won their first trophy in the inaugural edition in 2006/07. To put the heartbreak of their one-run loss in the final last year and go one better this time was a remarkable achievement for the side and their captain.

The hero on the night was spinner Manimaran Siddharth who hadn’t played a single match in the tournament till then. His left-arm orthodox spin left the Baroda batters bamboozled as they lost their first 6 wickets in the first 10 overs. Although Vishnu Solanki rescued the innings to take Baroda to 120, it was never going to be enough as Tamil Nadu breezed to an easy win in 18 overs.

Tamil Nadu dance to ‘Vaathi Coming’

The celebrates began in the dressing room after the Tamil Nadu players lifted the trophy and it was captain Dinesh Karthik who led the same. The skipper shared a video on his Instagram handle of the victorious group grooving and captioned it, “We play together. We win together. We groove together.”

The video showed Karthik leading a dance routine which was seen in a song of the recently-released Tamil move, Master starring Vijay and Vijay Sethupathi. The song is titled ‘Vaathi Coming’ (Translation: Teacher is coming) and the lead actor can be seen doing a shoulder-drop dance step in the same. The Tamil Nadu players were seen replicating the step to perfection in the video.
