Dominic Thiem is off the tennis court but that has not stopped the Austrian from making headlines somewhere else. As he continues his recovery from the wrist injury he picked up during the 2021 Grass season that has kept him out for 3 months now, Dominic tried his hands at acting again and this time bared it all.

Thiem recently appeared in a commercial for the Bank of Austria and he did it in ‘special’ fashion. The commercial aims at promoting sustainability and nature and had Dominic in a national park without any clothing until a group of tourists happen to come there and Dominic starts hiding as to not come out in front of them naked.

Speaking on the Tennis Channel, Dominic explained the process and what the advertisement was all about and also revealed that even though the face is his, a body double was used for some parts of the commercial.

It was super nice actually. It was filmed in National Park in Austria where it is very tough to get. The whole topic is about nature and sustainability so I enjoyed it a lot. Luckily, I got a double who was actually a big Novak fan because he was from Serbia and he was jumping into the river which was 5-6 degrees and he helped me out a lot. It was fun,” said Thiem.

Thiem picked up an injury at the 2021 Mallorca Open and as it was feared he had to miss a great number of tournaments because of it. He missed the 2021 Wimbledon, the revised 2020 Tokyo Olympics and also the 2021 US Open where he was the defending champion having won the Slam in 2020 in a thrilling fashion against Alexander Zverev being 0-2 down going into the 3rd set.

Thiem has been giving updates about his injuries now and then but the official date for his comeback has not been yet decided it seems. With the 2021 US Open in its final week, apart from the Masters’ tournaments, there are no big events left for Thiem to aim at in the race for year-end championships in Milan where he is trailing by a huge margin.
