Roger Federer, the GOAT of tennis has been away from the tour due to a prolonging knee injury. The Swiss master and his coach recently got back to the courts to train. However, Federer has been updating his fans, now and then, through his off-court commitments with sponsors.
Now, Federer’s coach, Severin Luthi has revealed that Federer is training with the mindset to be back in 2021. He has highlighted the current training scenarios for Federer.
Everything going as per plan
In an interview with Blick, Severin Luthi has asserted that the GOAT is all set to return and is hitting the courts but a tournament participation is clearly a while away.
“Roger is back on the field every now and then,” Luthi said.
“But the first phase of the tournament is still a long way off. Our motto is: Don’t rush things at his age! So far everything is going according to plan and satisfactorily. Roger is still not stressed. Tennis is only gradually becoming more important,” He added.
The current circumstances have left the tour organizers in a fix. After the cancellation of Wimbledon, the US Open was held without fans. Meanwhile, the French Open 2020 is ongoing with restrictions. But, team Federer, including his physiotherapist and coaches, will be training to hit the courts in 2021. Luthi has confirmed, if the Australian Open is held, Federer will participate.
“Do I have to give a tip, I say, the tournament is rising. But who knows what will happen if the number of infections there increases again? “The longer we wait, the more we know, If something is going on in Australia, Roger will be there – that’s the plan,” Luthi added.
The Swiss master should be back in 2021 as per Luthi. Tennis fans are eagerly waiting to see Federer back on tour. Hopefully, the Australian Open 2021 will commenced, so that fans can witness Roger Federer once again.
