7 Most successful men at the Australian Open

Guillermo Vilas, a 4-time Grand Slam winner won two of his titles at the famed Melbourne Park. Vilas reached three consecutive finals from 1977 to 1979. The Argentine great won back-to-back titles in 1978 and 1979. The title in 1979 was his last-ever major title. 

John Newcombe also clinched two titles on his home turf. The 7-time major winner also reached 3 finals at the Australian Open winning the titles in 1973 and 1975. His title defense in 1976 ended in the finals losing to compatriot Mark Edmondson. 

Ken Rosewall won a total of 4 titles at the Australian Open, two in the Amateur Era and two in the Open Era. The Australian emerged successful in 1953, 1955, 1971, 1972. Owing to his 4 total titles, he makes the list ahead of many others who also won 2 Australian Open titles in the Open Era. 

Swedish great Mats Wilander clinched 7 majors during his career of which 3 came in the Australian Open. The former World No. 1 won the titles in 1983, 1984, and 1988. He came close to winning three on the trot but lost the finals in 1985 to Stefan Edberg.

Andre Agassi, the 8-time major winner won half of his Grand Slams in Australia. The American won the titles in 1995, 2000, 2001 and 2003 maintaining a 100% win record in finals at Melbourne Park. 

Roger Federer ranks 2nd on the list with his 6 titles at the major. Federer reached 7 finals in Melbourne Park losing only once while winning 6. Federer's wins came in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2010, 2017, and  2018. His win in 2018 made him the second-oldest man to win a major title. 

Novak Djokovic reigns supreme in Australia with 9 titles from 9 finals at the Australian Open. After winning his first in 2008, Djokovic won 3 on the trot from 2011 to 2013. He won back-to-back titles in 2015 and 2016 before winning a hattrick of titles again from 2019 to 2021. Apart from the Serb, no other man in the Open Era has won 3 back-to-back titles in Australia.
