It was a dark day in Indonesia as more than 174 people lost their lives and more than 180 were injured as chaos erupted in the Kanjuhran stadium in Maland

Although, things turned south after the final whistle as Persebaya won the game 3-2. Thousands of Irate fans rushed inside the stadium throwing bottles and other items at everyone around.
This broke out the violence between the supporters f these two clubs. The police intervention also did not go as planned as they used tear gas on the fans causing more chaos towards the exits of the stadium. The stampede and suffocation from the tear gas caused the death of 174 people and injured many others. The derby sold 42,000 tickets for that game. According to reports from police, the fans started the violence and went on to do anarchic things.
