“I want to see her play” Serena Williams’ ex-coach Patrick Mouratoglou on the American’s potential comeback

Following her 3rd round exit at the 2022 US Open, Serena Williams bowed out after a glorious career of 27 years. The 23-time major winner had announced at the start of the US Open Leg series of hanging up her racket and 'evolving' from tennis.

Since her exit, Williams has often used the example of NFL great Tom Brady. Brady made a surprise return to the league shortly after his retirement and is still a vital player for his team, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

She has teased fans on multiple occasions posting photos of her racket and clips of her practice session. Many believe that the 23-time Grand Slam winner might actually comeback, but former coach Patrick Mouratoglou isn't one of them.

Williams and Mouratoglou joined hands in 2012 and stayed together till 2022. With Williams out injured and showing no concrete signs of return, Mouratoglou split with her having helped her win her last 10 majors.

Speaking with Eurosport, Mouratoglou said, "Do I want to see her play? I want to see her play again. Yes, yes, if she enjoys herself on the court. For that, she has to feel strong. If she doesn’t feel strong, she won’t enjoy herself. I want to see her play good tennis. If she can play good tennis, of course, I want to see her play. Everyone wants to see her play."

Mouratoglou further said, "I think to be exceptional at something, and God knows she's been exceptional, you have to be a little bit obsessive about it. You have to be 100% focused on the activity, otherwise even for tennis geniuses, it's complicated."

While Mouratoglou and Williams are believed to not be on talking terms as their split was a bit messy, Patrick sure does know Williams inside out owing to their decade long association. While fans would love to see Williams be active on the Tour again, the verdict of her former coach isn't on fans' expectations.
