Austin Reaves shone as a key scorer for the Lakers, beyond James and Davis, in his first NBA playoff game. A promising debut indeed.
As a college sophomore at Wichita State, Reaves showcased his sharpshooting skills beyond the arc, averaging 8.1 points per game while making 42.5% of his three-pointers.
Having played through torn labrums since high school, he eventually had surgery on both shoulders. He also set a record by scoring seven threes against Tulsa in 2018.
Seeking a new environment, he transferred to Oklahoma and utilized his sit-out year to enhance his skills. Reaves emerged as a star, leading the Sooners in scoring for two consecutive seasons.
Receiving All-Big 12 honors, Reaves delivered remarkable performances, such as a career-high 41 points against TCU and 27 points against Gonzaga. In his senior year, he led Oklahoma in scoring, rebounds, and assists.
Despite not getting drafted in 2021, Reaves stayed resolute and signed a two-way deal with the Lakers. He demonstrated his adaptability and poise during the preseason, earning their admiration.
