Jim Marshall was taking part in a game for the Minnesota Vikings vs the San Francisco 49ers. Marshall sprinted 66 yards the wrong way into his team's end zone after recovering an offensive fumble.
Oakland won 21-20 as a result of a forward fumble by Raiders QB Ken Stabler that was recovered in the end zone by his teammate, TE Dave Casper, for a touchdown. After the 1978 season, the NFL changed its regulations in an effort to stop a repeat of the play.
