Dagestani fighters have recently started taking over the UFC which once was dominated by native fighters from the USA. However, Sean Strickland has an explanation on the lack of American dominance in the UFC.

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of international athletes fighting at the highest level of MMA today, particularly those from Dagestan. When the statistics speak so, there is  only one American champion in  all the 12 divisions of men and women.

Most of the top fighters in recent UFC history are from outside. Especially fighter from Dagestan like Islam Makahachev, Umar Nurmagomedov, Zabit Magomedsharipov and Khabib Nurmagomedov have been very dominant.

Sean Strickland explained how American fighters' prospects of winning the UFC championship have been hampered by their adoption of the new-age mentality on a recent episode of Straight Outta The Lair with Flex Lewis.

According to Strickland, a talented modern American opponent would fare well in the contest if he developed the mentality of an old-school fighter and be ruthless inside the Octagon.

Now as bitter as it may sound, the Dagestani takeover seems inevitable at the point. The incredible work ethics backed by some crazy training is something the Americans aren't failing to match at this point. Now can they turn the tables, and regain their former glory? Only time will tell.
