Umar Nurmagomedov proved his worth by defeating Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 288 to become the new Bellator lightweight champion. Let's take a deeper look into his inspiring journey.
The Dagestani guys are here to take over and they proved it again. The cousin of UFC legend, Khabib Nurmagomedov, Usman beat Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 288 to win the title.
Usman started his training for freestyle wrestling under his uncle, the legendary Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov at Makhachkala. From a very early age, he was training along with Khabib and Islam Makhachev.
Usman Nurmagomedov's professional career started in 2017 in a local MMA promotion in Moscow, Russia. Similarly to Khabib and Islam, Usman was also unbeatable during his early professional days. He finally got his big break in 2021 after he got the opportunity to compete in Bellator.
In Bellator, Nurmagomedov fought the likes of Manny Muro, Chris Gonzalez etc. and after only four fights got the title shot.
Patricky Pitbull is a legend of Bellator and has been a great champion however, the skillset and lower of Nurmagomedov was too much for the Brazilian. The Dagestani won the fight, via unanimous decision and gave credit to Khabib Nurmagomedov, Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov and coach Javier Mendez for his achievement.
