WFI declares “No competitions in India until December”

While many individual sports have restarted training and competitions after the three-month halt due to the virus, Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) has declared that they will not be organizing any tournament until December this year. “This year we will not organize any event,” WFI assistant secretary Vinod Tomar said.

UWW had conducted a webinar to discuss the future of wrestling which directed by President Nenad Lalovic with the main agenda to plan the UWW calendar. However, most of the members say no to holding any events anytime soon but Russia showed keen interest in resuming the competitions while Iran and the US defied Russia’s stand.

Meanwhile, the biggest challenge during the meeting was about holding the World Cup in September this year. To this Russian emissary agreed to hold the competition while Iran and the US opposed it referring COVID-19 as the reason.

WFI is yet to relinquish its proposals to the governing body and June 30 is the deadline for the submission.
