When Daryl Harper Gave Sachin Out ‘LBW’ on a ‘Bouncer’
Daryl Harper Gave Sachin Out LBW on a Bouncer Thumb
If you are a Sachin fan you must have known about this horrific incident which happened at The Adelaide Oval in the year 1999.
It was the second inning of the first test match of India against Australia at Adelaide Oval. Sachin was batting on zero when Australian pacer Glenn McGrath bowls a bouncer to Sachin but due to pitching in some crack, the bowl doesn’t bounced much and kept low. Sachin ducked it but as the ball was low it went on to strike his left shoulder.
Because, Sachin is not very tall and from the bowlers angles it seems that ball may have hit the bails.
McGrath appealed after hitting Sachin’s shoulder and umpire Daryl Harper without any hesitation gave him out. Obviously, Sachin was not happy with the decision. Whenever Sachin talks about that incident he simply says that the ball was clearly going over the stumps.
Probably, it should have been Shoulder Before Wicket (SBW), not an LBW. This decision by the umpire Daryl Harper in 1999 is still known as one of the most controversial ones.
Many Indians were not happy with that decision. But, that was due to the passion people have for cricket in India where Sachin is a ‘God’ of the game.
