Elaine Thompson is one of the greatest sprinter in the world currently and has made it a habit to deliver at the Olympics. She continued the Jamaican legacy of 100m sprints and won the women’s 100m sprint at Tokyo Olympics against all odds. She wasn’t the favorite to win the race but the ace sprinter somehow managed to better her teammate and arch rival Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce to clinch gold with an Olympic record of 10.61 secs.
Thompson won the Rio 2016 gold at the 100m event and shocked the world. But ever since then, she wasn’t able to win big and finished only 4th at the 2019 world championships. Hence, her Tokyo Olympics victory would probably be regarded as her greatest ever run.
Elaine Thompson’s husband
Elaine, now 29, married her long time boyfriend Derron Herah on November 2, 2019. Before the weeding, the couple kept most of their stuff private but Elaine announced her wedding to the world in a grand style. She flooded her Instagram with pictures of the wedding and wrote a beautiful note for her husband.
“I have a best friend as a husband, and he is my number one supporter. He’s a family man, and he’s always giving back to God. That is what makes him a beautiful man. We’re not perfect by any means, but that makes us beautiful as well. We’re not afraid to say we’re not perfect. We have our disagreements, but that comes along with marriage,” she wrote.
Like Elaine, Derron too was a professional Jamaican athlete and later served as a coach. 39 year old Derron is a former St. Jago athlete and also attended Southwest Christian Junior College and Texas Tech University. After the marraige, Thompson took her husband’s name too and is now know as Elaine Thompson Herah.
