It’s a hard thing coming into a press conference and answering journalists, especially after being beaten comprehensively in a Grand Slam Semi Final. But, Stefanos Tsitsipas was faced with that task, and he did his job in a professional manner. Tsitsipas praised Daniil Medvedev, and compared his serve to John Isner’s.

He also said that Daniil is a fantastic baseline player too. Which means even if you return the serve you have to work hard to win the point. This was Tsitsipas’s third Semi Final loss at Grand Slams. He had lost the French Open Semi Final to Djokovic 3-6 2-6 7-5 6-4 1-6 in 2020, and the Australian Open Semi Final to Nadal 2-6 4-6 0-6 in 2019. Tsitsipas said that he has learnt a lot from these defeats. And he believes he has the game and the talent to win a Grand Slam Trophy. He said he hoped the game also threw up more champions than the Big 3. The Big 3  of course is Djokovic, Federer and Nadal.

“Ever tried, ever failed, no matter, try again, fail again, fail better” – Tsitsipas quotes Wawrinka’s tattoo on defeat

Stan Wawrinka has these words of Irish writer Samuel Beckett inscribed on his forearm, and these are the words Tsitsipas quoted on being asked about his next move. Stefanos Tsitsipas said that even though he was not feeling ‘100%’ he would like to play a tournament next week just to keep his ‘rhythm’ going.

In the end Tsitsipas thanked the country of Australia, and it’s ‘beautiful’ people. Although disappointed with his Semi Final defeat to Medvedev, 4-6 2-6 5-7,  he said that he has always loved playing Tennis here, and can’t wait to come back next year.
