World Archery releases new qualification procedure for the postponed Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics


On Saturday, the World Archery released a new qualification procedure for the postponed Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics.

The final selection tournament is scheduled in summer 2021 and it is planned to take place as a separate tournament alongside the Paris stage of the 2021 Archery World Cup.

The World Archery said, “The period in which athletes can shoot minimum qualifying scores has been extended until June 28, 2021, excluding the period April 1 to June 30, 2020.”

It further added, “All places already qualified for Tokyo 2020 remain with the qualifying nation. It is still up to each country to choose the athletes that fill the spaces at the Games.”

Out of 128, 87 quota places for the Olympics have already been awarded. And out of 140, 93 for the Paralympics have been distributed to date.

Earlier, the new deadline for the qualification period which is June 29, 2021 after the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but it got postponed due to the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

July 5, 2021 is the deadline for “final sport entries” which is issued by the Olympics governing body.

The Tokyo Olympics will be held in next 2021. It will start from 23rd July till 8th August. And the Paralympics will be held just after the Tokyo Olympics and will start from 24th August 2021 till 5th September 2021.
