The International Boxing Association (AIBA) has terminated the India’s contract to host the Men’s World Boxing Championship for not fulfilling obligation to pay host fee as mentioned in the host city agreement terms and Boxing Federation of India on Tuesday said that it was taken in haste.
On Tuesday, AIBA handed the hosting rights to Belgrade, Serbia for the tournament, which is scheduled to be held in next year.
The BFI also claimed that they were not consulted and accused AIBA of not assisting them during the bank operation linked to Serbia.
“AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championships takes place in the city of Belgrade in 2021. After New Delhi didn’t fulfill its obligations to pay host fee as mentioned in the Host City Agreement terms, AIBA has terminated the contract. Therefore, India would have to pay a cancellation penalty of 500.000 USD,” AIBA said in a statement.
BFI President Ajay Singh Said that he had a word with AIBA Interim President, Dr Mohamed Mustahsane and both bodies are working for a mutual solution. The apex body also said that it is confident that the cancellation penalty will be waived off.
After taking the rights of hosting the tournament the President of Serbian Boxing Federation Nenad Borovcanin, believe that Serbian Boxing Federation will do a fantastic job in organising this tournament.
