India’s medal tally at the World Junior Wrestling Championships rose to nine as the Indian girls shine on the fourth day. Bipasha secured silver to clinch the nation’s first medal in women’s wrestling. The Indian was impressive on her way to the gold medal bout but faltered on the big stage against American Kylie Welker.
It was shocking for the Indian fans as Bipasha settled for silver with a dismal showing in the final. The third-seeded Indian struggled in the final as she lost to Welker 10-0 via technical superiority. Bipasha had no answer to the 8th seeds move as she finished the bout in the very first period.

Simran and Sito emerged victorious in their bronze medal bouts to take India’s medal tally to nine in the tournament. Simran toppled Belarus’ Natallia Varakin 7-2 to clinch a podium finish. Sito bagged the bronze medal in the 55lg category by defeating Melda Dernekci 11-0 by technical superiority.
Among others, Sanju Devi and Bhateri confirmed a medal each by storming into the finals. Sanju put up an impressive performance against Bargul Soltanova in the semifinal to clinch a place in the final with a win by points. Bhateri, on the other hand, had a close encounter with Amina Capezan before she won the game for scoring the final points in a bout that ended 2-2.
Earlier, Ravinder won the silver medal in India’s first final at the event. Yash came up with a stunning comeback to win a bronze medal. Pruthviraj Patil bagged bronze in 92kg as Anirudh Kumar returned with a bronze medal in the 125kg category to take India’s tally to six.
