Ashleigh Barty vs Shelby Rogers: Preview

Ashleigh Barty

Barty is high on confidence. She comes into WTA Charleston on the back of a trophy win at the Miami Open. And history tells us that Barty is a fantastic player on clay, she won the French Open in 2019. Barty had a bye in the first round of the competition. In the second she overcame Misaki Doi in straight sets.

Her third round opponent is local girl Shelby Rogers. Rogers won her first round match with effort to spare. Kristina Mladenovic, her first round opponent is not a menacing name in Singles tennis but to beat her 6-4 6-3 was well done by Rogers.

In the second Rogers won a match which she in all honesty should have lost. But thirteenth seed Amanda Anisimova committed one error after the other to finally end up losing the match in three sets. Rogers won 1-6 7-5 6-4.

Barty and Rogers will meet for the fourth time on tour. The previous three meetings have all resulted in wins for Barty, so she leads the head to head 3-0. The last time they met was at the Australian Open 2021. Barty won that match in straight sets, 6-3 6-4.

Ashleigh Barty vs Shelby Rogers: Prediction

Ash Barty

Barty has an all court game, and that’s why she is equally at ease on clay as she was on the hard courts. Barty has a 15-2 record on hard courts this season, and will be looking to better that on clay. In the clay court season her eyes will be on titles. Rogers will have to play out of her skin to salvage anything from this match.

Match Prediction: Ashleigh Barty will beat Shelby Rogers in straight sets.
