Veronika Kudermetova vs Paula Badosa: Preview

The Russian has shown incredible form and consistency in this tournament. World no.38 only dropped 14 games on her way to the quarters. Local favourite, Sloane Stephens then fell prey to the power of Kudermetova and eventually lost in two sets.

Meanwhile, the Spaniard has raised quite a few eyebrows after beating World no.1 Ash Barty in the quarters. Before taking out the Aussie, the Spanish player had never beaten a top-20 player. Her straight set win over Barty will boost her confidence ahead of the semifinal clash.

Both players have met before on two occasions and both times Kudermetova has emerged victorious. However, this will be their first ever meeting on clay.

Veronika Kudermetova vs Paula Badosa: Prediction

Veronika Kudermetova

This match-up promises a lot. While the Russian has been tight with her game, clinically finishing off matches, the Spaniard has shown no signs of fear either. Badosa hung in, despite staring at several break points against Barty, owing to which she got the comfortable win. If she has to win the semifinals, she also needs to break the Kudermetova serve as quickly as possible. But perhaps, Badosa’s mental recovery after such a high-profile win will go a long way in helping her make her first WTA finals. Currently, based on their previous head to head record, the Russian stands a better chance to get the win.

Match Prediction: Veronika Kudermetova should beat Paula Badosa in three sets.
