Petra Kvitova vs Garbine Muguruza: Preview

Garbine Muguruza

Petra Kvitova had a tough semi final encounter against Jessica Pegula. Although she won the contest, Kvitova was not in control most of the time. One got the feeling that an experienced opponent would have won that match against Kvitova.

A 6-4. 6-4 looks good on paper but it was a close match which could have turned any moment. Kvitova needs to play much better than this if she wants to win back the trophy that she first won in 2018. Her opponent in the Final is Garbine Muguruza.

Muguruza has been in red hot form in the last few months. She has been getting better with every match. She got a day off when her semi final opponent, Victoria Azarenka, gave her a walk  over. Azarenka could not recover from the back problems she had against top seed Elina Svitolina in their quarter final encounter.

The two players have played each other five times on the tour, and Kvitova leads the head to head 4-1. The last time these two played was in the Qatar Open 2018, and Kvitova had won that contest 3-6 6-3 6-4.

Petra Kvitova vs Garbine Muguruza: Prediction

Garbine Muguruza

Fourth seed Kvitova has her task cut out against Muguruza. Kvitova’s biggest worry has been her serve, which is usually a great weapon, has been faltering in this tournament. Muguruza has lost the last few encounters against Kvitova, so she needs to be careful of not trying to change her style of play.

She is playing good solid tennis, and not much needs to change. But Muguruza has to keep attacking and control the game if she wants to win this one.

Match Prediction: Muguruza to win in three sets.
