WWE Draft 2020 was one of the most unique draft for the company. The main reason for this being that irrespective of the brand they were drafted to, a Superstar performed in the empty WWE Thunderdome for a major part of the year. While the brand-split didn’t mean much for the Superstars, but for the WWE Universe, the difference between the rosters was quite apparent.

The Blue brand of WWE, Smackdown, was stacked with the top Superstars of the company like Roman Reigns, Sasha Banks and Seth Rollins, even the returning stars, like Becky Lynch and Brock Lesnar, were sent to Smackdown.

This doesn’t mean that there weren’t big names on Raw. There certainly were stars like Randy Orton, Charlotte Flair and Drew McIntyre, but they were not really utilized as well as their Blue-brand counterparts. Considering that the WWE Draft has an impact on the entire year of programming, a lot of time is spent on planning them. The long-term plan was quite clear in the Draft last year, as could be seen from the first picks.

The first overall pick of the Draft in 2020 was the then-WWE Champion Drew McIntyre, who was retained by Raw. On the other hand, the second pick overall, and Smackdown’s first pick was Universal Champion Roman Reigns, along with his on-screen manager Paul Heyman.
