Jericho has appeared in 5 MITB ladder matches

WWE Money in the Bank are one of the most popular PPV’s in the WWE calendar. Initially started as stipulations for the Wrestlemania cards, the matches got so popular that they started having their own pay-per-views.

As per WWE storyline, the concept of WWE was ideated by Chris Jericho. One would imagine the man who came up with the whole idea of the match, would be quite successful in such matches. But despite making 5 appearances, Jericho has never won the ladder match.

The first-ever Money in the Bank ladder match featured Jericho with Kane, Edge, Christian, Chris Benoit and Shelton Benjamin. The Rated-R Superstar walked out as the inaugural briefcase holder, who successfully cashed it in against John Cena, to win his first World Championship.

There have been numerous occasions, where Chris Jericho has claimed to be the creator of the iconic Money in the Bank ladder match. During the build up to the Wrestlemania 21, Jericho proposed the idea of the Money in the Bank ladder match to the WWE Universe.

The idea involved him, five other Superstars and a bunch of steel ladders. Jericho recently revealed on his podcast, Talk is Jericho, “So I came up with the idea to do a match, like a ladder match. A six-way ladder match. And Brian Gewirtz, who was a good writer at the time said, ‘well what’s at stake?’ So I said, ‘well why don’t you have a contract where the winner gets a title shot the next night?’ Then Brian said, ‘Well, why don’t you make it you can use it any time over the following year and you can cash it in at any time?”

Jericho even mentioned that WWE CEO and Chairman Vince McMahon came up with the idea of keeping the briefcase. The ideas of the three men, ultimately led to the creation of WWE Money in the Bank.
