WWE Money in the Bank is less than a month away and it will be the first PPV to have live fans in attendance, post WWE’s Thunderdome Era. The PPV is well-known for their ladder matches, in which a handful of WWE Superstars participate to win a Championship contract.
In this list we take a look at the Top 5 WWE Money in the Bank moments. A special mention to the Money in the Bank 2020 PPV, where due to the pandemic, WWE organised the entire ladder match in the Headquarters. The match began on the ground floor of the HQ and continued till the terrace where the briefcase was hanging.
#5 Kane cashes in his Money in the Bank contract on the same night
At the WWE Money in the Bank 2010 Kane won the ladder match and got the contract which earned him the right to challenge for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. In the main event Rey Mysterio successfully defended his title against Jack Swagger, but Kane walked in right after to challenge him. Kane defeated Rey Mysterio to become the new Champion.
#4 All members of The Shield hold the title on the same night
At the WWE Money in the Bank event in 2016, in Las Vegas, Dean Ambrose won the ladder match to win the Money in the Bank contract. In the main event of the same PPV, Roman Reigns put his WWE World Heavyweight title on the line against Seth Rollins. Rollins defeated Reigns to be crowned the Champion. But Ambrose cashed in his contract and won the Championship – allowing every member of The Shield to hold the title on the same night.
#3 Brock Lesnar returns to win the WWE Money in the Bank
The biggest surprise of WWE Money in the Bank 2019 was the return of the “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar. He officially replaced Sami Zayn in to the match. Ali was close to winning the title, but Lesnar entered and won the briefcase.
#2 First-ever Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match
In 2017, WWE decided to kick off the Women’s Money in the Bank Ladder match, which took place on Smackdown. With the help of James Ellsworth, Carmella became the winner of the first-ever Women’s MITB match. This eventually led to a second ladder match days later on the Blue brand.
#1 John Cena vs. CM Punk for the WWE Championship
John Cena vs. CM Punk at Money in the Bank 2011 was arguably one of the greatest matches in recent memory. The match was after CM Punk had delivered his iconic pipebomb, and he had threatened to leave with the WWE Championship as his contract was set to expire the same night. The match had received a 5-star rating and the whole match was complimented by Punk’s home crowd.
