Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson started his wrestling career in 1996. He fought his initial matches under his original name Johnson and later used the Rocky Maivia gimmick. He changed to a lot of characters after them and finally adopted his identity as ‘The Rock’. This gave a boost to his wrestling career. He has started his career in Hollywood and is currently one of highest paid actors in the World.
Dwayne belonged to a family of wrestlers. His father, Rocky and grandfather, Peter Maivia were professional wrestlers. Belonging to the Anoa’i family, wrestling was in his veins. However, the start of his career was not as great and at one point in his career, he wanted to quit.
“Die Rocky Die” chants proved to be a boon for The Rock
Dwyane played the Rocky Maivia character for a long time. This character was not liked by the fans and received massive “Die Rocky Die” chants. Mark Henry, in the Busted Open podcast revealed that “The Rock hated his first character and wanted to quit WWE.He fought that tooth and nail [to move away from his original gimmick]“.
He also expressed his desire to quit wrestling and live a life filled with positivity. Later, he started trying on some new stuff and started with a car first. His change to ‘The Rock’ was humongous. He attracted the fans as well as the audience to a great extent. The “Die Rocky Die” chants died in themselves.
This chant proved to be the turning point in Dwayne’s life. Had there been no such chants, he would not have been able to have a new beginning and thus, change his fate. He is currently one of the most liked celebrities in the World and his Hollywood career is also reaching new heights.
With his short returns to WWE, the fans also wait for the day, ‘Electrifying’ plays in the background and The Rock shows up in the ring.
