Why WWE keeps revisiting Roman Reigns-Brock Lesnar feud over and over again?

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar have faced each other multiple times on different occasions

Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar are two of the biggest stars of the current generation

For the 1st time since unifying the WWE Champion and the Universal Champion at Wrestlemania, Roman Reigns made his first Undisputed Universal Title defense last night on WWE Smackdown in a highly octane match against Riddle in a successful attempt. Following his match, Roman grabbed a mic and asked the Minnesota crowd to acknowledge him but he instead got interrupted by the returning “Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar.

This was the 1st time since losing his WWE Championship at Mania against Reigns, the Minnesota native Brock Lesnar made his return to the WWE television. After Smackdown, WWE officially announced Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar in a Last Man Standing match as the main-event of Summerslam. This announcement obviously met up with a fan-mixed reception with the major complaint of the WWE Universe being the highly repetitive string of matches WWE keeps on putting between these two generational athletes.

Some fans also felt a bit optimistic about them facing each other one more time cause many of them believed that their Wrestlemania clash didn’t felt up to the hype and this could be the perfect opportunity to produce a fantastic slugfest one more time for the entire WWE Universe. Now, you’ll might also be wondering that if WWE gets such a major backlash in majority for repeating the same television over Reigns and Lesnar this frequently, why they just keep doing this over and over again? Let’s try to figure out some valid reasons for that.

The Major reasons behind Roman Reigns Vs. Brock Lesnar being done again

Roman Reigns will defend his Undisputed Universal Championship against Brock Lesnar at Summerslam

1. Roman and Lesnar are two of the biggest draws in current Wrestling

The first and most believable reason we can flex out of the mix is the massive numbers these two premier athletes drew whenever they get involved in any sort of altercation. For a reference, let’s take yesterday’s case where WWE uploaded the Brock Lesnar’s Smackdown return video on their official YouTube channel.

The video has pulled in some impressive numbers in just a day’s time as it is currently standing at 2.8 Million views which makes it as the fastest growing video on WWE’s YouTube channel to cross such massive numbers in a short span of 1 day in a long long time. So clearly, they draw big time which is the most important aspect of pro-wrestling when you’re out there entertaining the audience.

2. The long-studded injury bucket has forced WWE to book Lesnar against Roman one more time

Next, we all know that the originally planned main-event for Summerslam was for Roman Reigns to defend his Undisputed Universal Championship against Randy Orton but unfortunately that won’t happen anymore as The Viper is dealing with severe back issues as of late which will potentially sideline him for the rest of 2022.

Adding to the injury woes, Cody Rhodes also suffered a torn pectoral muscle which has already taken Rhodes out of in-ring action for 9 months as stated by WWE in their official statement, however he’s expected to return sooner than that. With both of the major babyfaces out, WWE badly needed someone to fill in their shoes against Roman and they felt Lesnar as the perfect fit for that gap.

3. WWE needs Brock Lesnar to sell-out a major stadium show

WWE Summerslam will emanate from the Nissan Stadium located in Nashville, Tennessee this year on July 30th . Keeping this in mind, there are lots of seats to be filled in a stadium as compared to other indoor arena events. As per the recent estimates of WrestleTix, Summerslam had 22,519 tickets sold-out for the show while there were still nearly 12,000 tickets up for grabs in a currently opened capacity of over 34,000 seats.

At this pace, WWE is still not even close to selling out this show hence they needed someone big to return on their programming well before the show’s build even officially kicks-off to boost up their ticket sales for the biggest party of the summer.

4. To overshadow the disappointment of their Wrestlemania match

Although their build-up to the shows of shows was nothing short of a top- notch, Reigns and Lesnar failed to deliver their match as per the hype generated during their previous encounters. Although several reports stated that this match went exactly as planned by the WWE, most of the fans were disappointed by the short length of the highly personal match. Maybe, WWE has realised that they have one more shot for this match to create a lifelong impact on our minds after their match happens at Summerslam.
