Finn Balor was on a memorable run on his second reign as the WWE NXT Champion. But the reign came to a screeching halt when Balor ran into former Champion Karrion Kross. Fans might remember that Kross has previously held the title, but had to relinquish it due to an injury.
Kross returned to the black-and-gold brand this year, and had his eyes set on winning back the title that he had never lost. He faced Balor on Night Two of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver. Balor came close to ending Kross’ undefeated streak. But Kross prevailed and kicked off his second reigns as the NXT Champion.
After few weeks off, Balor is back fresh and challenged Kross for a rematch. Last week on NXT, Kross accepted the challenge. The rematch takes place next week on NXT, and Balor has an opportunity to become the first ever three-time NXT Champion.
Multiple wrestlers will target the NXT Championship rematch winner
Since the last few weeks, several stars from NXT have made it clear that they are aiming for the WWE NXT Championship. Kross had mentioned that he wanted the roster to step up and challenge him, but everyone was scared of him.
Kyle O’Reilly was the first one to answer the challenge and made it clear that he wasn’t afraid. He was interrupted by Pete Dunne, who came in with the intention of proving that he is the best. Finn Balor came in too demanding his rematch.
This wasn’t all. Johnny Gargano and Austin Theory too attacked Kross to announce their interest in the title. Now with Gargano no longer the North American Champion, he might be eyeing the NXT title. We could see any of them interfering in the NXT Championship rematch, next week on NXT.
