Surprisingly, Kai and Gonzalez lost their titles later that night. Shotzi Blackheart and Ember Moon became the new WWE NXT Women’s Tag Team Champions. The way WWE introduced the titles confused the fans.

Wrestling Observer Live reported that the titles have been on the works for a long time. The initial plans were to unveil the Championship right after the Dusty Cup finals. But the tournament was rushed to coincide with the men’s tournament. The titles were not ready by then, which led to the delayed introduction.

The title changed hands on the first night

As soon as Kai and Gonzalez were crowned Champions, they found their first challengers. Moon and Blackheart wanted a shot at the brand new titles, which was officially announced by NXT GM Regal. The inaugural Champions lost their titles on the first night.

The only logical explanation for them losing the title could be that Raquel Gonzalez is getting a singles push. NXT Women’s Champion Io Shirai said she wanted to fight Gonzalez.

WWE also planted the seeds for the new challengers for the NXT Women’s Tag Team titles. Candice LeRae and Indi Hartwell will be the first team to challenge Moon and Blackheart.
