Top 5 NXT Superstars who could challenge John Cena

16-time WWE Champion John Cena was last seen on WWE at Wrestlemania 36. He broke his record of attending Wrestlemanias at the 37^th edition of the Showcase of the Immortals. At Mania 36, Cena had faced “The Fiend” Bray Wyatt in a Firefly Funhouse match.

Since then, Cena has been focusing on his Hollywood career. He is currently gearing up for the release of two big Hollywood franchise movies – Fast & Furious and The Suicide Squad. But he recently expressed his desire to be back on WWE.

“I really, really want to get back to WWE. I really want audiences to get back to WWE. Heck, I’m with everybody I think around the world saying I just want the world to get back to normal, but these are interesting times, and I have a lot of interesting opportunities at my feet, and I really do appreciate the WWE Universe understanding that after so many years.”

Gargano is one of the best heels on the NXT roster. Cena has always been a babyface on WWE. The Heels of the NXT roster are the most likely to challenge Cena. Johnny Gargano recently lost his North American title to Bronson Reed. The frustration from this loss could make Gargano a formidable force against Cena. Additionally, presence of Austin Theory on Gargano’s side, could also raise the odds Cena.

Adam Cole is fresh from the breaking of his faction, The Undisputed Era. He turned on his team mates and made it clear that nothing can stop him from proving that he is the best wrestler in the industry. Going against and defeating Cena, who has been the face of the company for the longest time, might just be the win that Cole needs.

KOR is currently getting a massive push on NXT. He has been on fire since his feud against Adam Cole kicked off. KOR has showed that he has the potential of delivering brutal matches regularly. WWE could use Cena to cement KOR’s place as a top star on NXT.

The current NXT Champion Karrion Kross is undefeated on the black and gold brand. He defeated Finn Balor at Night Two of NXT TakeOver: Stand & Deliver to win the NXT title again. He had defended it earlier but had to relinquish it due to an injury. Facing Cena could also establish him as a top NXT star.

With or without title, Finn Balor is one of the top Superstar on the NXT roster. Arguably, no one can match the consistency at which Balor delivers brutal bouts one after the other. The top star of the NXT roster going against one of the biggest WWE Superstars is definitely a dream booking.
