Universal Champion Roman Reigns is finding it really hard to breathe a sigh of relief – with one challenger emerging after another, and that too, stronger than previous one! Reigns had just overcome 16-time WWE World Champion John Cena recently at Summerslam 2021.
It has been just a couple of weeks since “The Biggest Party of the Summer” and two challengers have already emerged for The Tribal Chief. “The Beast Incarnate” Brock Lesnar made his intentions clear by challenging Reigns during the Super Smackdown episode. But the Universal Champion Roman Reigns has made it clear that he will be coming after Lesnar, once he is done with Finn Balor!
Reigns had defeated Finn Balor last week on WWE Smackdown. A rematch was announced between the two Superstars for WWE Extreme Rules 2021 – which confused many. But the surprise appearance of Finn Balor – in his alter-ego avatar has gotten the fans excited. It won’t be Finn Balor, it will be The Demon King facing Roman Reigns for the Universal title.
Interestingly, The Demon King has lost just once in his entire career! The persona had debuted way back in 2014, and has picked up wins against some massive Superstars like AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt. The only time Balor’s alter-ego lost was against Samoa Joe, in 2016. Considering how protected this character is, WWE might be planning to shock the fans with Reigns losing the title.
One of the only shortcomings of Roman Reigns’ character is the fact that his wins are guaranteed, one way or the other. In case the Demon King dethrones Reigns, it will definitely be one of the most shocking WWE moment of the year.
Universal Champion Roman Reigns has also accepted Brock Lesnar’s challenge
In the opening segment of the Super Smackdown episode, Lesnar challenged Reigns, which was accepted later in the night. It is quite clear that WWE is saving this marquee match for a bigger PPV like the Survivor Series.
But one of the most interesting aspect of this feud is going to be Paul Heyman. Brock Lesnar’s former advocate is now the Special counsel to Universal Champion Roman Reigns. With no clarity on whom Heyman is siding with, things are about to get interesting in this feud. Just one mistake that WWE clearly needs to avoid is to end Demon King vs Roman Reigns due to an interference from Lesnar. Otherwise, we are in for some blockbuster Universal Championship feuds.
