The 2020 draft pick Zion Williamson headed straight to the New Orleans Pelicans. Everyone really wondered about his adaptability with such heavy body. Zion is a heavily built and has more body mass. Although this doesn’t bother his swiftness. He seems to swarm from one end to the other and has a really impressive vertical. Williamson entered the NBA with a great hype. He was absolutely dominating when he played for Duke. Accompanied by RJ Barret, he took over to be the #1 pick. However, he seems to have lost all the hype being immune to criticism by the former NBA legend, Karl Malone.

Zion was ruled out with injury in the previous season. Zion hit the news once again when he stated how he was losing body fat for the 2021 season. The undisputed number 1 pick seems to have lost some of his real capabilities. Karl Malone clearly seemed to be disappointed with Zion’s performance. He really wished to see a lot of him as a sheer show of domination.

Karl Malone opens up being unsatisfied at Zion Williamson’s fitness level

Zion was not seen in a great touch this year although he made some great plays. But they weren’t sufficient to bring the winning streak for the team yet. Former NBA legend, Karl Malone spoke to podcast and became vocal about the degrading fitness levels of Zion. Malone said, “Guys, I love Zion Williamson. If he doesn’t get into shape, we might not ever know his full potential. There was a young man who played at LSU – ‘Big Baby’ Davis. Big Baby made a comment about eight months ago. And he came on that [ESPN] show and he said ‘I’m about to get into trouble with what I’m about to say. I know everybody loves Zion and I love him too. But Zion has the same body type that I got.” Zion needs to work a lot on the stamina. If he intends to be successful, he has to get him all geared up.

Malone added, “He was talking about himself. And (Davis) said, ‘If (Zion) don’t get into shape, we’ll never know his full potential. And he did get heat for that… He needs to be averaging 40 minutes a game. You are a 21-22-year-old kid, your a** shouldn’t be getting tired.” Pelicans are not in the way of championship. They need to hurdle up and get their things straight to start winning games.
