Youssef Zalal is undefeated thus far under the UFC banner, having earned wins over Austin Lingo, Jordan Griffin and Peter Barrett. Zalal has not suffered a defeat in over a year with that last loss coming to Matt Jones via split decision at LFA 65 in May of 2019. Zalal has picked up half of his professional MMA wins by submission, while all of the fighter’s losses came by decision.
Zalal is riding plenty of momentum with his active 2020 and despite taking on an opponent who’s lost two of his past three. He faces Choi as his sternest test to date.
“I haven’t gotten my Moroccan side out yet,” Zalal said. “All they’ve seen is my technical side – my head movement, my movement. They haven’t seen the actual Dutch kickboxing, just sitting there and being a crazy Moroccan. I think this fight, it might have a chance of bringing that out of me, so I’m pretty excited about that.”
Youssef Zalal vs Seung Woo Choi
Talking about his fight against Seung Woo Choi with MMA Junkie, Youssef Zalal said, “I feel like he’s a tougher matchup than all the guys that I’ve fought before, to be honest,” Zalal told MMA Junkie. “I feel like he’s way higher level than the guys I’ve fought, even though he lost his fights. But for me, I feel like he brings a lot of danger to the game, so I don’t care. Whatever the UFC gives me, I just want to stay ready and really just stay active. That’s all I care about.”
Talking about Zalal’s opponent, Choi has won just one of three in UFC competition, with that lone win coming over Suman Mokhtarian at UFC Fight Night Busan. Choi has competed three times in the UFC and all of those bots went into the third round, with two of those going the distance. Choi is a former Top FC Featherweight Champion, defeating Min Gu Lee by fourth-round knockout to claim the gold.
