Ilia Topuria is currently on an incredible run by knocking out some of the biggest names in UFC history. Last year, he completely dominated the featherweight division by beating Alexander Volkanovski to win the title in stunning fashion. Topuria successfully defended the belt against legendary Max Holloway and showed the world why he deserves to be the champion.
Recently, the Georgian-Spanish superstar brutally knocked out lightweight veteran Charles Oliveira to become the new UFC 155-pound champion. With that, Topuria impressively secured the number one spot on the official UFC men’s P4P rankings. Despite getting flatlined by Topuria previously, the ‘Blessed’ still bizarrely questioned and doubted the young champion’s fighting credentials.
It’s just tough, right. Yeah he beat the names and you can’t deny that, but then when you look, it just sucks when you look at everything that was going on when you look at that Volk fight. Volk was coming off what he (was coming off), that’s kind of crazy, but people just look at the names, they’re not looking at the record, they’re just like ‘Oh Alex was the champ’, and then me and then Charles. Charles was on a one fight win streak, at the end of the day, they’re just moments and they’re just names…

Before fighting Topuria, the Aussie legend came after suffering a tough loss against lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. It was a devastating knockout loss where many fans and experts advised Volkanovski to take a much longer recovery break. However, Volkanovski, suffering from mental health issues, disagreed and quickly returned, leading to another brutal knockout loss.

Recently, Volkanovski surprisingly revealed that the Makhachev fight gave him more concussion damage than his brutal knockout loss against Topuria. Similarly, before facing Ilia Topuria, Oliveira was riding momentum with a dominant victory over Michael Chandler. However, Holloway entered the Topuria fight after an incredible knockout win over violent striker Justin Gaethje, but still got flatlined.
Former UFC champion predicts Max Holloway vs. Dustin Poirier
At UFC 308, Max Holloway unfortunately experienced his first-ever knockout loss in his entire decorated professional fighting career. Following the devastating defeat, the Hawaiian superstar decided to take a significant gap before finally stepping inside the octagon again. Holloway will be returning soon against old rival Dustin Poirier in their third epic clash at the upcoming UFC 318 PPV.

Currently, Poirier leads their rivalry 2-0 and remains the clear betting favorite to win the anticipated trilogy fight. However, Holloway confidently promised revenge, vowing to brutally finish DP and finally get redemption for his previous losses. Islam Makhachev, Poirier’s old rival, shared his prediction in an interview, expressing belief that Poirier will win again convincingly.
I think Dustin will win. He told me this is his last fight, and I think he’s going to be ready. He’s going to be ready. He’s going to win, I think. Dustin is a very good guy. From my opponents, I respect two guys: (Alexander) Volkanovski and Dustin. They’re really nice guys. I send them messages.

Makhachev fought Poirier last year at UFC 302, securing a dominant submission victory after a brutal war. This upcoming fight marks Poirier’s final UFC appearance before officially retiring and leaving behind an unforgettable fighting legacy. Fans eagerly anticipate whether Poirier will retire gloriously by capturing the BMF title or suffer the same fate as his last fight.
