In Short
  • Nate Diaz was fined $20,000 by the UFC for using explicit language towards another fighter.
  • He lost the same amount after cursing out Reebok on camera during an interview.
  • Diaz has been involved in multiple controversies, including a $50,000 fine from the NSAC before UFC 202.

Stockton native Nate Diaz is undoubtedly one of the most unapologetic individuals in the history of the UFC roster. The former UFC fighter built his reputation through relentless performances, fearless trash talk, and unwavering loyalty to his roots.

Alongside his brother, Nick Diaz, he expanded the Diaz legacy into a global cult following. Throughout his career, Diaz became involved in several controversies that often resulted in suspensions and fines. Nate Diaz joined the UFC in 2007 after his performance on The Ultimate Fighter and had a good initial run.

Diaz was a PR nightmare for the promotion, and his comments often attracted controversies that the promotion had to deal with. In an interview, the veteran talked about how he was fined $20K despite getting a chance to settle things.

I got fined for hella (expletive). One time I got fined for calling Bryan Caraway a word that I’m not supposed to use. They were like, ‘You have to like publicly do an apology,’ and I was like, ’No, I meant it.’ And, they were like it’s a $20K fine. A couple days later, the Reebok thing happened and they were all just kissing (expletive). And I tweeted the middle finger and Dana White said, ‘Congratulations kid, you just lost 20K.’

Bryan Caraway publicly criticized Nate Diaz in 2010, questioning his professionalism and overall impact on MMA. Diaz responded in typical fashion, dismissing Caraway’s comments and belittling his relevance and using a derogatory slur. Although tensions grew through interviews and social media exchanges, the rivalry never materialized into an actual fight inside the octagon.

Apart from this, following the chaotic pre-fight press conference ahead of UFC 202, the NSAC fined Nate Diaz for $50K. In 2016, Diaz accepted a public warning from the United States Anti-Doping Agency for in-competition Cannabidiol use, without receiving suspension or a fine.

During 2019, a pre-fight drug test revealed trace amounts of LGD-4033, but Diaz was ultimately cleared without sanctions. Diaz has been part of several high-profile bouts, including his iconic rivalry against Conor McGregor. The fighter mostly preferred to entertain the crowd instead of going for wind, which boosted his popularity.

Nate Diaz apologizes for his comments on Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira

Nate Diaz inaugurated the BMF title when he faced Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in New York. Diaz ultimately lost the bout via doctor stoppage due to severe cuts. Since that night, the Stockton native has frequently teased a comeback, expressing a strong interest in reclaiming the symbolic BMF crown.

The title is currently held by Max Holloway, who is scheduled to defend it against Charles Oliveira at UFC 326. Ahead of the matchup, Diaz publicly shared his prediction, initially disrespecting both fighters before later clarifying his comments.

I didn’t say I’d slap Max Hollaway I said that about Olivera but I shouldn’t have said that either it was rude and I was fed up. If  we were fighting in a caged match I might attempt it but that was rude I shouldn’t  have said that my bad Bruhs all Respecto.

Max Holloway defended the BMF belt by defeating Dustin Poirier in his last outing, retiring the respected veteran afterward. Similarly, Charles Oliveira remains one of the most popular fighters, with fans strongly backing his comeback title bid.

Both fighters enter this matchup riding one fight win streaks, fully prepared for what promises to be an absolute war. This marks their second clash, with the Brazilian determined to secure redemption and avenge his previous loss.
