10-Men Resilient Leeds secure an Emphatic 2-1 Win away at Manchester City

Manchester City vs Leeds United

Manchester City may be Champions elect of the Premier league this season but Leeds United showed that they too can be beaten. 10-man Leeds have done what most teams from England have failed to do all season and defeated Manchester City 2-1.

Leeds scored 2 goals with just 2 attempts all over the match and have written a fairy tale story as they scored in the 91st minute through Dallas. This is the first time that Pep Guardiola has lost 3 games at home in all of his managerial career.

Dallas’ strike in the 91st minute wrote headlines for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United

Liam Cooper earned a red card in the first half

The shots stats made it seems like an act of pure larceny but Leeds were excellent, restricted City to few decent chances, and had quality at both ends when they needed it. Leeds took the lead with their first ever attempt at the 40th minute as Bamford slipped in a pass towards Dallas and the Irishmen put it into the net without making any mistake.

However, their joy was short lived as Leeds’ United captain Liam Cooper saw a direct red card for a rash challenge on Gabriel Jesus. The referee had issued a yellow card on first viewing but was invited by the VAR team to change his decision to red.

Manchester City continued to pile on the pressure on 10-men Leeds as they looked for the 3 points which would have brought them even closer to the Premier League trophy. City finally broke the deadlock as Bernardo Silva found himself in a bit of space and passed it onto Ferran Torres to score the important equalizing goal.

City looked to be good enough to score the winner and continued to threaten the Leeds goal. They managed 29 shots on goal throughout the entirety of the match but were denied each and every time by an industrious Leeds defence.

Dallas had other ideas as Leeds themselves managed to score at the other end of the pitch in the 91st minute putting an end to Pep Guardiola’s hopes of getting closer to the title. Alioski found Dallas who had plenty of room to attack in the City half. He fired in a shot from the edge of the area and slid it through the legs of Ederson into the back of the net.

The win will remain a memorable one for Leeds United as it came in difficult circumstances and against a very very good Manchester City side. Pep Guardiola is yet to trump his master Marcelo Bielsa and will look to change that record the next time they face each other.
