UFC FIGHT NIGHT : THOMPSON VS NEAL PRELIMS RESULTS
The much awaited fight between Stephen Thompson and Geoff Neal is almost here. It is going to be one cracker of a match as the number eleven ranked Geoff Neal will be looking to upstage the top 5 ranked Stephen Thompson. But, before that we had the prelims which kicked things off. Here are the results from the prelims!
Catchweight : Christos Giagos vs Carlton Minus
Christos Giagos def. Carlton Minus via unanimous decision : The first fight of the UFC FIGHT NIGHT : THOMPSON VS NEAL went the full three rounds. But, it was a catchweight bout. Christos Giagos the short notice opponent of Carlton Minus, entirely dominated the fight, winning via unanimous decision.
Round 1
Giagos begun his domination initiating an early takedown and grounding Minus. Minus tried his best to get off Giagos’ hold but it was of no avail. Minus finally found his feet towards the end, but Giagos once again took him to the ground, ending the round on a massive high. 10-8 Giagos
Round 2
Round 2 was no different, as Giagos continued his sheer dominance. He once again took Minus to the mat, with excellent ground control. Minus got thoroughly outclassed on the mat, and once again towards the end, he somehow found his feet, but got pushed to the mat once again. 10-8 Giagos.
Round 3
A massively tired Giagos tried to exert his domination in the final round as well. But, a defiant Giagos took the fight to the floor once again. Once Minus got away from Giagos’ hold he tried his best to come back into the fight. But, it was too little too late. 10-9 Giagos
Winner : Christos Giagos def. Carlton Minus via unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-28)
Flyweight : Jimmy Flick vs. Cody Durden
Jimmy Flick def. Cody Durden via submission : The second fight ended in a jiffy with Jimmy Flick putting on a remarkable turnaround, as he defeated Cody Durden via submission with a triangle choke.
Round 1
Durden begun the round with a combination. Flick evaded the follow up shots, but he got taken to the ground by Durden. The both got back on their feet, with Durden going for a quick jab. While Durden was dominating, a lightning-quick Flick executed a triangle, setting up a remarkable turnaround. Durden tapped!
Winner : Jimmy Flick def. Cody Durden via submission (triangle choke) – Round 1, 3:18
Middleweight : Tafon Nchukwi vs. Jamie Pickett
Tafon Nchukwi def. Jamie Pickett via unanimous decision : Tafon Nchukwi, the Cameroonian took on Jamie Pickett of America. The Cameroonian maintained his spotless record, as he claimed a unanimous decision victory.
Round 1
Nchukwi began the fight as the aggressor with a few punches and kicks. Nchukwi kept throwing punches but was blocked most of the times by Jamie Pickett. He somehow landed a punch on Nchukwi which made him switch gears. Nchukwi then came back landing a few knees. The rounded with a late clinch. Nchukwi 10-9
Round 2
Nchukwi landed a few combos, with a few connecting. Nchukwi continued his domination. Pickett found his way back into the fight with a combo. The round ended with a clash of ends and the referee failing to see it. Nchukwi 10-9
Round 3
The clash of heads affected Pickett going into round 3. It began with both the fighters exchanging punches. Nchukwi then landed a big right hand. Then a kick and he began dominating Pickett. Pickett tried to come back but of no avail. Nchukwi 10-9
Winner : Tafon Nchukwi def. Jamie Pickett via unanimous decision (30-25, 30-26, 30-26)
