Kiyan Anthony wants to inherit Carmelo Anthony's mentality

Carmelo Anthony’s son, Kiyan Anthony, carries the same genetic talent that drove his father to become one of the top 75 players of all time. The four-star prospect is one of the top players in the upcoming draft cycle.

Joining WNBA star Angel Reese on her podcast, Anthony revealed the biggest quality he has adopted from his dad. The 17-year-old prodigy has often been compared to his father, the same way many placed expectations on Bronny James.

Kiyan Anthony has been incredibly receptive to the similarities between his game and his father’s. However, when asked about the number one quality he would take from his father, Kiyan had a blunt answer.

I would take his mentality. Like even when he missing shots or even when the game not going his way, he’s still going to find a way to get to it.

Kiyan Anthony said

While Kiyan may not have the same finesse as his father, he has certainly inherited some of his scoring ability. He dropped a blazing 40 points in the Peach Jam over the summer on 79% shooting from the field. He also was top 3 in scoring at the PIT tournament, with some blistering shooting splits.

Kiyan has a predisposition as a scorer and has certainly inherited the hooper gene from his father. However, as he pointed out himself, it was Carmelo Anthony’s mentality that set him apart.

Carmelo was one of the top recruits out of college. He would have been the unanimous number 1 pick in the 2003 NBA draft had it not been for the presence of one LeBron James.

Where will Kiyan Anthony commit?

The number one question surrounding Kiyan Anthony is the location of his future school. With the CBB season fast approaching, Kiyan and his family will be making a decision soon.

In fact, Kiyan will be joining his father Carmelo Anthony on a special episode of the 7 PM In Brooklyn podcast to reveal his decision this Friday. Kiyan has boiled down his options to three schools at the moment.

Syracuse is the obvious top option, given his father’s legacy in the school. However, the junior Anthony has been clear about not fixating on Syracuse as an option. The Auburn Tigers and the Trojans are also among the top options for the teenager.

The Trojans have already been a top option, with Bronny James also committing to USC last season. Coaches Eric Musselman and Bruce Pearl of the Trojans and Tigers, respectively, have been major reasons for Anthony picking the two teams. He has major respect for both coaches and believes in their ability to get players drafted in.
