Amidst the WWE Draft 2024, the latest episode of SmackDown did a sufficient job building up the upcoming Backlash PLE in France. Not only were two new matches announced for the premium live event, but the WWE X account confirmed another match after the show ended.
Smackdown General Manager Nick Aldis announced two new matches for Backlash following the events that transpired on the night. First, he announced that Bayley would defend her WWE Women’s Championship against Naomi and Tiffany Stratton in a triple threat match.
Aldis then let former SmackDown GM Teddy Long make the second announcement. As such, the 76-year-old announced a tag team match where Randy Orton and Kevin Owens would team up to take on the new Bloodline duo of Solo Sikoa and Tama Tonga.
Both of these matches have been building up on the last few episodes of SmackDown. The three women have repeatedly run into each other over the past few weeks. Stratton interrupted the WWE Women’s Championship match between Bayley and Naomi last week. Moreover, the number one contender’s match this week also ended in a no contest, finally leading to this triple-threat match.
Kevin Owens has also had his fair share of trouble with The Bloodline. After being brutalized by Tonga last week, the Prizefighter looked for some revenge. Orton came out to help the former Universal Champion, leading to this tag team match in France.
WWE announces another match for WWE Backlash after SmackDown goes off the air
These matches were not the only additions made to the Backlash card. After the show went off the air, WWE announced that Bianca Belair would be teaming up with Jade Cargill to challenge The Kabuki Warriors for their Women’s Tag Team Championships.
The duo has been feuding with The Kabuki Warriors and Damage CTRL as a whole for quite a while now. Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill teamed up with Naomi to take out Asuka, Kairi Sane, and Dakota Kai on Night 1 of WrestleMania XL.
The four superstars had another altercation on the latest episode of SmackDown. The champions tried to outnumber the EST of WWE. However, The Storm came out just in time to help her tag team partner. While the four of them did get into a verbal altercation, this was soon interrupted by another brawl.
