The Davis Cup is the premier international team event in men’s tennis. It is run by the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and Kosmos Holding and is contested annually between teams from competing countries in a knock-out format. In 2019, the Davis Cup was won by Spain. As the Covid pandemic made sure there was no Davis Cup in 2020, Spain remain the defending Champion at this year’s edition.

In 2019, the Davis Cup Final was held in Madrid, between Spain and Canada. The first match of the Final was played between Roberto Bautista Agut and Felix Auger-Aliassime. In a match that was literally nothing short of a full fledged battle on court, Agut battled past Felix to win  7-6 (7/3), 6-3. The second match which was the most important one had, thankfully for Spain, Rafael Nadal taking the field from the Spanish side and locking horns with him was Denis Shapovalov. Nadal’s 6-3, 7-6 (9/7) win over Shapovalov in front of an adoring home crowd at the Caja Magica gave Spain an unassailable 2-0 lead. And Spain were the 2019 Davis Cup Champions
