It’s the time of the last Major of the season – the US Open, the qualifying rounds of which are underway. Before the start of the main draw, fans enjoyed matches of the singles players who joined forces with fellow singles players for the revamped US Open mixed doubles.

The event has ended, and the players have shifted their focus to their singles campaign. Last year, Aryna Sabalenka lifted her career’s first US Open title with a straight-set win over home favorite Jessica Pegula.

In the second part of this quarter, 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina could face Jasmine Paolini in the fourth round. But before that, she could meet 2021 US Open champion Emma Raducanu in the third round. Paolini will be a favorite to reach the last eight thanks to her run at the Cincinnati Masters.

Quarterfinal prediction: Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jasmine Paolini

Second quarter

Jessica Pegula is the top seed in this quarter. The fourth seed could meet Dayana Yastremska in the third round and Belinda Bencic in the fourth round.

The second part of this quarter features 10th seed Emma Navarro and fifth seed Mirra Andreeva, who lifted back-to-back WTA 1000 titles this season at the Dubai Open and Indian Wells. But the focus will also be on another teenager. It’s Victoria Mboko, the 18-year-old Canadian ace who beat four Grand Slam champions before lifting her career’s first title at the Canadian Open this season.

Quarterfinal prediction: Jessica Pegula vs. Victoria Mboko

Third quarter

Seven-time Grand Slam singles champion Venus Williams is part of this quarter. But at this stage of her career, she is not expected to make a deep run.

Her compatriot Madison Keys is a heavy favorite to reach the quarterfinal, where she is expected to lock horns with third seed Coco Gauff. But before reaching the last eight, the 21-year-old could meet four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka in the fourth round.

Quarterfinal prediction: Madison Keys vs. Coco Gauff

Second seed Iga Swiatek will be the heavy favorite to advance to the quarterfinals. Swiatek is bidding to win the US Open for the second time after her victory in 2022.

If she reaches the quarterfinal, she could meet Amanda Anisimova, which would be a rematch of this year’s Wimbledon final, where the Pole double-bageled her. But before reaching the last eight, Anisimova could run into compatriot Danielle Collins in the third round and Elina Svitolina in the fourth round.

Quarterfinal prediction: Amanda Anisimova vs. Iga Swiatek

Semifinals

Sabalenka, Pegula, Gauff, and Swiatek are the favorites to reach the semifinals. Sabalenka has played two Grand Slam finals this season, losing both. At the Australian Open, Keys beat her, while at the French Open, Gauff denied her the title.

Pegula has been playing consistent tennis this season as she has so far reached five finals and claimed three titles. Although Gauff sometimes struggles to play on a consistent basis, it’s tough to write her off in a Major event, especially when it’s the US Open, which she lifted in 2023. Swiatek has started to enjoy a purple patch after a trophyless start to the season.

Semifinal prediction:

  • Aryna Sabalenka vs. Jessica Pegula
  • Coco Gauff vs. Iga Swiatek

Final

Sabalenka and Swiatek could schedule a blockbuster clash in the final. Swiatek holds an 8-5 head-to-head lead.

But it’s Sabalenka who clinched the wins in their last two clashes. But the six-time Grand Slam champion has regained her form and, since June, has reached three finals and claimed two titles, so she could beat Sabalenka and become a double Grand Slam champion this season.

Final prediction: Aryna Sabalenka vs. Iga Swiatek
Winner prediction: Iga Swiatek
