For the first time in the history of the WTA Finals, five women have qualified in three consecutive WTA Finals. They are: Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, and Elena Rybakina.
Also, for the first time since 2002, four American women will be playing the year-end championships. The 54th edition of the singles event will be held for the second consecutive time in Riyadh. The players to feature in the event are the eighth-highest-ranked players.
The eight players are divided into two groups: Group Steffi Graf and Group Serena Williams. Each player from a group will play the other three players in the round robin stage. The top two players in each group will progress to the semifinals. The top player in one group will clash with the second-placed player of the other group in the semifinals, and the winners will then face off in the final.

Sabalenka, the runner-up in 2022 (lost to Caroline Garcia), suffered defeat at the hands of Gauff in the semifinals last year. Pegula was the runner-up in 2023 (lost to Swiatek).
Paolini made her debut last year thanks to her two back-to-back Grand Slam final appearances (at the French Open and Wimbledon). She failed to move into the last four (lost to Sabalenka and Zheng in the round robin stage).
Semifinals: Aryna Sabalenka, Coco Gauff
Round robin: Group Serena Williams
Iga Swiatek, Amanda Anisimova, Elena Rybakina, Madison Keys
Anisimova qualified for the WTA Finals for the first time thanks to five finals she played, including at Wimbledon and the US Open (lost to Swiatek and Sabalenka, respectively). She also won two WTA 1000 titles (at the Qatar Open and China Open).

Swiatek, the winner in 2023, is one of the two players in the draw to have won the year-end championships (the other player is Gauff). Despite winning two matches, the Pole couldn’t grab a spot in the last four (this happened after Barbora Krejcikova defeated Gauff in straight sets).
Rybakina and Mirra Andreeva fought hard to qualify, but in the end, the Kazakh ace prevailed, thanks to her Ningbo Open win and two match wins at the Pan Pacific Open. Keys, the reigning Australian Open champion, has never progressed to the semifinals.

Sabalenka trails 5-8 in the head-to-head matchups against Swiatek but has won their last two meetings, including in the semifinals of this year’s Roland Garros. The World No.1 is the winner of four titles, and Swiatek, too, started to taste victories as the year progressed.

Gauff trails 1-2 in the head-to-head record against Anisimova, and also lost their last two meetings: in the third round of 2022 Wimbledon and in the semifinals of this year’s China Open, which the two-time Major singles champion was playing as the defending champion. Gauff arrived in Riyadh after a successful run at the Wuhan Open.
