“Time to lower the salary cap!” – $270 million for 22-year-old Franz Wagner has internet up in flames

Franz Wagner signs a massive deal

Franz Wagner has signed the biggest contract in the Orlando Magic history, which is a five-year deal worth $224 million. Moreover, when he becomes eligible for supermax, the deal goes to $270 million. Looking at other rookie contracts this one is one of the biggest contracts.

Franz Wagner had a great last season with averages of 19.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists and 1.1 steals and was an asset both on the offense and the defense for the Orlando Magic. It was because of his strong and dominant last season that he secured the big deal. One of the greatest Magic players, Dwight Howard‘s biggest contract was $83 million. There are many similarities in both players as both are great frontcourt players and both can guard the post.

Magic made the playoffs for the first time since 2020 and showed signs of a great team in the future. With the star power forward Paulo Banchero on his side, Magic has one of the strongest frontcourt in the league today. Wagner even recorded his career high this season with 38 points against the Detroit Pistons.

With two great players as the cornerstones, the Magic have got the blueprints of a championship team. While the Eastern Conference has become stronger compared to last season, Orlando seems to be locked in for the next season and can be a threat in the Eastern Conference.
