2932 athletes under Khelo India and 10248 athletes under SAI schemes selected for further training: Kiren Rijiju

Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju informed that as many as 2932 athletes under Khelo India and 10248 under the Sports Authority of India(SAI) scheme are selected for further training.
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS) selected the athletes under the ‘Talent Search and Development’ scheme.
The selected participants will compete in National and International events after training under the SAI. The Union Minister for Sports and Youth affairs Kiren Rijiju, said in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
Schemes under Sports Ministry aim to develop athletes for future

To identify the sporting talents, the Ministry conducts competitive performance and assessments through a scientifically designed battery of tests. The Sports department identifies talent and provides them support with modern sports science, exposure abroad, and participation in international events.
The Khelo India Games is one such scheme, which assists in identifying young sportsperson from the country. The National Sports Federation (NSF) and the Sports Authority of India (SAI) provide training to these athletes.
Guwahati hosted the Khelo India Games in January earlier this year. Recently, the government has announced Haryana to host the 4th edition of the games.
This year the budgetary allocations for Khelo India were 890 crores. The overall allocations for the Sports ministry stand at 1757.42 crores, Rijiju informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
