After months of causing mayhem in WWE, CM Punk and Drew McIntyre will finally butt heads at SummerSlam. Punk announced that he had finally received medical clearance to compete in the ring. Meanwhile, McIntyre was reinstated after being suspended for his actions at Money in the Bank. However, there was a major twist lying in wait for both superstars on Raw.

Adam Pearce revealed that Seth Rollins will be the special guest referee for the grudge bout, much to the dismay of Punk and McIntyre. The involvement of Rollins certainly adds intrigue to the already anticipated match at SummerSlam. Moreover, it opens a plethora of possible endings to the encounter. Having said that, here are three possible outcomes to the Punk-McIntyre bout at the Biggest Party of the Summer:

Seth Rollins interferes; screws either CM Punk or Drew McIntyre

When Seth Rollins was announced as the special guest referee, fans immediately took a trip down memory lane to SummerSlam 1997. In the main event at that year’s event, Shawn Michaels posed as the special guest referee in the WWF title bout between rival, Bret Hart, and The Undertaker. The ending saw Michaels inadvertently hit Taker with a steel chair, allowing Hart to pick up the win.

Similar to HBK, Rollins could prove to be the deciding factor in this match. The Visionary has well-documented issues with both CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. Therefore, if things get out of control, it will be difficult for The Architect to keep his cool. All in all, fans are expecting the former Universal Champion to somehow screw one of his rivals at SummerSlam.

Drew McIntyre essentially squashes CM Punk

On August 27, 2023, CM Punk defeated Samoa Joe in the opening match of AEW All In. Since then, the Straight Edge Superstar has yet to compete in a televised singles match. Punk did enter the Royal Rumble match earlier in January; however, his upcoming clash with Drew McIntyre brings forth a much more difficult task in hand.

Hence, it would completely make sense if WWE pivoted in the direction of The Scottish Warrior squashing his rival. McIntyre getting revenge in the best possible way would help further the intensity of the personal feud. Additionally, a new story surrounding Punk’s ‘in-ring rustiness’ could play a crucial role down the line in his other matches.

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre execute a double turn at SummerSlam

Taking another page out of Bret Hart’s book, a repeat of his WrestleMania 13 match against Stone Cold can be replicated at SummerSlam. Drew McIntyre and CM Punk will take each other to their limits, prompting one of the men to take drastic measures. Having said that, The Second City Saint may turn heel by cheating to emerge victorious.

Meanwhile, McIntyre would automatically turn face in the process, successfully executing a double turn at the Biggest Party of the Summer. Of course, this outcome is unlikely to occur, but this would be a very bold move by WWE if done right. Regardless, fans cannot wait for Punk and McIntyre to finally lock horns inside the squared circle at SummerSlam.
