NFL players received the green signal to represent the USA Flag Football team in the 2028 Summer Olympics. The next task on the agenda should be to select the right man to coach the star-studded team.

Flag football will be among the five sports introduced at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. A number of NFL players, notably Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb of the Dallas Cowboys, have expressed interest in playing for the USA squad..

After 2027 ima take a break from football to prepare for the Olympics!

Micah Parsons tweeted last year

On May 20, 2025, at the spring league meeting in Minneapolis, the NFL unanimously approved the participation of football athletes in the 2028 Olympics.

I know firsthand that the inclusion of flag football in the Olympics has sparked a tremendous amount of excitement among NFL players interested in the chance to compete for their country on the world stage. We are thrilled that they will now have that chance.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said via ESPN

Each nation is allowed to field five players and can enlist a total of 10 players for the tournament. Moreover, only one player from each NFL team could be selected by the U.S. for the Olympics, apart from their designated international player.

Players such as Arizona Cardinals’ Kyler Murray and Baltimore Ravens’ safety Kyle Hamilton are eligible to represent South Korea due to their family background. The same goes for Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive tackle Jordan Mailata, who hails from Australia.

Three coaches who could take charge of the USA Flag Football team at the 2028 LA Olympics

The players are ready to take on other teams. It’s bound to be a super roster. However, Team USA needs an equally great coach who also has to be a good leader of men. Here are three coaches who could be appointed as the head coach:

Eli Manning’s Pro Bowl coaching experience can come in handy

It’s a left-field shout, but a great option nonetheless. Eli Manning is a good choice to coach the USA 2028 Flag Football team because of his history. He may have never managed an NFL team or a college team, for that matter, but he stepped in during the Pro Bowl games.

A clutch player in his playing days, Manning defeated his older brother, Peyton, on each occasion the former Colts and Broncos QB was in charge of the AFC team in the Pro Bowl.

More importantly, he was a player not too long ago. He played with and against some of the current NFL players who are eyeing the 2028 Olympics. The two-time Super Bowl winner will be a great candidate to lead the USA team.

Andy Reid might become available as free agent in 2028

Coach Andy Reid is arguably the best mentor currently active in the NFL. The 67-year-old led the Kansas City Chiefs to three Super Bowl wins in four years and has dominated both their division and the AFC conference since taking over in 2013.

Reid will undeniably be one of the front-runners for the USA coach job in 2028. He will be 70 by then, so there’s a massive possibility that Reid may retire a year early from football and start preparation for LA. If Reid agrees to become the coach, fans can expect two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes to throw his name in as the quarterback as well.

Deion Sanders will bring the Prime Time aura at LA

There’s no better candidate to lead the USA Flag Football team at the 2028 LA Olympics than Prime Time himself. The Olympics is the biggest stage of all, because the entire world would be watching with curious eyes, and who better to make the team legendary than Deion Sanders?

Coach Prime is currently committed to raising the standards in Colorado, but no one knows how the program might look four years down the line.

In just two years, the Hall of Famer has changed the outlook of the Buffaloes from bottom feeders to a school where everyone wants to sign up.

Not to mention, Sanders brings the views. If his son, Shedeur Sanders, can establish himself as the starting quarterback in Cleveland by then, one can be sure to see his name on the roster. It is a win-win situation.
