Hardly two years after signing a lucrative extension, Daniel Jones’ tenure with the New York Giants came to an end. The franchise released the quarterback on Friday upon his request, ending a five-year stint following a series of abysmal performances.

In his search for a new home, Jones has made it clear that he prefers to join a playoff-contending team rather than a team in need of a quarterback. Sources indicate that he wouldn’t have to wait too long to secure a deal he desires. He is set to clear off the waivers on Monday, given if they claim him, they would have to pay the remaining $11.83 million along with an additional $23 million injury guaranteed.

Since he is aiming to avoid the pressure of starting quarterback, there’s also a possibility that he may join the practice squad like many veterans in the league. This way, he would also join the roster of a strong team while they would not need to cut any player from the 53-man roster.

Baltimore Ravens

Having a veteran quarterback as skilled as Jones is certainly a luxury which can be a steal in times of crisis when the starting quarterback gets injured. For the Ravens, they only have Josh Johnson behind star starter Lamar Jackson. They can be a head start as Offensive Coordinator Todd Monken can utilize Jones’ arm strength and athleticism quite well if Jackson had to sit out.

San Francisco 49ers

According to NFL.com, the next possible option is the 49ers, who previously hit a jackpot with their backup quarterback Brock Purdy. However, he is dealing with a shoulder injury this season and is expected to miss out on the upcoming game against the Green Bay Packers. At present, he is said to miss only one game but if it increases after re-evaluation, then acquiring Jones can become a real possibility.

Minnesota Vikings

According to Sporting News, besides these two, the Vikings are also said to be a potential landing spot for the former first-overall pick. Given, that Sam Darnold is hitting the free agency market next season since he only signed a one-year contract and the team is unlikely to extend him while having J.J. McCarthy become a franchise quarterback. The veteran can fit well in the Kevin O’Connell system as a backup to the rookie star next season.
