- Playing alongside talented teammates will allow Reese to thrive and prove her doubters wrong.
Over the past two seasons, millions of new fans thronged to the WNBA to catch Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese resume the rivalry they unintentionally started in college.
The two have tried to point out how they are not enemies or that they do not hate each other. Even then, the league wants to pit them against each other, as that is what fans want to watch.
Even though they started the 2025 season with an explosive battle, the pair could not continue their desire to beat each other when both struggled with various injuries. Now, they are both healthy, and their supporters were waiting for the new season to start, so that they can cheer for their favorite women’s basketball player.
However, those who supported the Chicago Sky will now have to switch allegiance to the Atlanta Dream. But that has not affected their morale. Rather, they believe it is finally time for Angel Reese to return to the winning ways that made her a champion in college.
The trade would not have happened if the 6’3″ forward had not criticized the lack of quality teammates. On the other hand, the Indiana Fever had surrounded Caitlin Clark with elite talent.
If not for injuries, there was a chance they would have been one holding the 2025 WNBA Championship. But now that it did not happen, Reese finds herself in a position where she can lift the trophy before her college rival can.
Atlanta have a loaded squad ready for Angel Reese
Admittedly, the Indiana Fever defeated the Atlanta Dream in the first round of the 2025 playoffs. On first glance, one might wonder how a team that lost to an injury-riddled Fever could be touted as being championship favorites.

Well, it is not just because of how good Angel Reese is. Rather, it is about what the Maryland native brings to the team. Her strengths are rebounding, defending multiple positions, and facilitating playmaking when needed.
The Dream had two All-Star centers at its disposal last season. Brionna Jones and Brittney Griner. But neither of them is as elite as the Bayou Barbie at rebounding or playmaking.
With Reese manning the four spot, Jones can concentrate on her inside scoring prowess while defending on the other end. Griner can do the same when she comes off the bench. Where this squad will really shine is when their newest member grabs those offensive rebounds and kicks them out to either of the elite shooters and cutters they have at their disposal.
Allisha Gray and Rhyne Howard are serious knockdown shooters. Jordin Canada and Naz Hillmon can get to the basket in different ways. Te-Hina Paopao can do a mix of both, while also facilitating.
This is a squad that was built to contend, and Angel Reese‘s skills will now elevate them to a status that even the reigning champions, the Las Vegas Aces, will find it hard to contend against.
Angel Reese brings tenacity and grit to the Dream
One of the primary reasons the Atlanta Dream underachieved last season was that they did not have the mindset ready to power past a Caitlin Clark-less Fever in the playoffs.

In fact, playing without that many good players placed a chip on the Fever’s shoulders. The Dream needs something like that, as most of their stars were playing passively in the postseason.
With their aggression only coming out in the regular season, Angel Reese can solve that problem. The 23-year-old’s competitive drive belies her age, and that is what the Dream needs to push them when it matters.
She can set the tone with her elite rebounding, awareness, swagger, and pure grit. All of those things combined can unsettle opponents, even though they could be more talented than the Dream.
Some might feel that the Chicago Sky did not agree with these notions and felt that her off-court distractions were a problem. But her time at LSU has proven that when channeled correctly, Angel Reese can be the spark the Dream needs to meet their goals.
Dream will give Angel Reese the chance to prove her doubters wrong
One of the factors that helped Angel Reese lift the 2023 NCAA National Championship was that she was surrounded by enough talent to complement her skills.

In comparison, she was tasked to lead the Chicago Sky in scoring, rebounding, defense, and playmaking last season. That took a toll on her, as she felt she was doing a lot more than her teammates. Reese has a while to go before she can be compared to the likes of A’ja Wilson and Napheesa Collier. She is not currently a No. 1 option on all those fronts.
However, on the Dream, that burden will be distributed, and that is what will enable the two-time All-Star to shine in a different light. There are enough examples of how athletes play better when they play with a free mind.
All of these aspects can help Angel Reese win a WNBA championship. If she manages to do that before Caitlin Clark does, it will enable the new Atlanta Dream No. 5 to silence her doubters for good.
