Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles were supposed to seamlessly run it back this season. After the way they ran over everyone to win Super Bowl LIX, many believed this was the new team with a blueprint to keep winning.

Many felt they were going to be the new version of the Chiefs dynasty. That logic was not misplaced, as the franchise let go of some veteran players to help the young defense take ownership of their new roles.

In the first 4 weeks of this season, that plan seemed to be working, as the defense saw some new players emerge from the shadows and helped the Eagles battle out to a 4-0 record.

Then Week 5 came, and the Denver Broncos quickly exposed the Eagles’ biggest Achilles heel, their lack of chemistry in offense. One would think this is something they could talk it over, smoothen things out.

But a supposed meeting did not help matters. The way the New York Giants embarrassed them on Thursday Night Football, there is reason to believe that the offense is broken, and may need a reboot.

AJ Brown claimed that a supposed meeting between him, Hurts and Saquon Barkley, did not happen as the media and his two teammates revealed. That answer alone indicates that there is something fundamentally wrong with the unit.

This response could make matters worse inside the locker room as the wideout essentially called his teammates liars. Therefore, the Eagles have to dig deep and resolve some matters before it becomes too late.

Nick Sirianni has to take charge of what is happening on offense

Usually, when situations go south, players resort to holding team meetings. This is a measure to ensure the athletes who perform on the field, air out their differences and hope to improve the understanding between them.

At this stage, and especially with AJ Brown‘s answer, it seems a players’ only meeting might not help as much as the team would like. Now, it is the job of the franchise’s leader to step in and sort things out.

Head coach Nick Sirianni has to talk to them as the boss who demands answers and accountability. He cannot let this standoffish attitude between his top offensive players continue.

Many might think it is just AJ Brown who is unhappy. But DeVonta Smith‘s recent comments indicate the entire unit might not be on the same page. It is Sirianni’s house to fix.

At the same time, he also needs to ensure Offensive Coordinator Kevin Patullo is in the meeting. There have been concerns about the team’s play calls, and that is on his shoulders.

Get AJ Brown, Jalen Hurts and the offense to suggest how they should play

In their Week 4 debacle, many placed the blame on AJ Brown for seemingly slowing down and missing what could have been their game-winning touchdown.

He denied slowing down, and felt that Jalen Hurts missed on that throw. That points to a serious fracture in their relationship. When one looks at the overthrown pass to DeVonta Smith in their Week 5 loss to the Giants, everyone knows it was Hurts’ fault.

It is not that the quarterback is known for his lack of efficiency. Psychologically, this offensive unit might be battling demons in their head, rather than it being a skill issue.

To solve it, the offense can sit down and talk it over on how they want to play their next game. If the players can give suggestions, and that everyone agrees to it, it can help alleviate the tension that has been building up.

This could also be a way to assert accountability among them, as currently it seems the top stars are in blame deflecting mode. That is the last thing the Eagles need this season.

Eagles need to use Saquon Barkley more

When the Philadelphia Eagles blitzed their way to win Super Bowl LIX, the offense had two simple formulas that they used. Run the ball through Saquon Barkley. Then, when the defense closes him down, throw it to the receiving unit.

This is exactly what every team wants to do, but none of them can claim to have arguably one of the league’s best players in their backfield. Nor can many teams claim of having an offensive line as stout and well-drilled as the one the Eagles employ.

Despite those advantages, the star running back has managed to average just 3.4 yards per carry. That happens to be the worst average of his career, and a far way off the heady 5.8 yards he averaged when he galloped his way to records.

The Penn State alum referred to last season’s schemes, suggesting he wants to lead the offense the way he did last time. It may be prudent for the Eagles to revert to their old ways, as without him leading the offense, they are not scoring points.
