Despite his advancing years, LeBron James remains one of the NBA’s top players, particularly when he performs at Madison Square Garden. Without Anthony Davis, the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the New York Knicks 128–112 on Saturday when they headed to New York. With a triple-double of 33 points, 12 assists, and 11 rebounds in 37 minutes of play, James was the highlight of the performance.

James became the first athlete over 40 to ever record two triple-doubles in the process. The Lakers star quickly surpassed the 28 points per game he was earlier averaging at the arena, improving to 23-8 at his favorite place to visit. Additionally, he made 2,500 3-pointers, making him the seventh NBA player to do it. James scored three of the Lakers’ 19 (season-high) 3-pointers in the game.

In addition, James was also questioned regarding his return back to the MSG after dropping a top performance at the age of 40. James quickly said, “We’ll see” hinting that he could possibly return in the future. However, the Knicks and the Lakers do not play at the MSG this season, unless they meet in the NBA Finals. So, it is possible that James could play yet another season in the NBA.

The Lakers legend is now earning $48.7 million this year as part of a two-year, $101 million contract. He has a $52.6 million player option if he wishes to play the following season. It will be interesting to watch how this unfolds going forward in the season.

Knicks announcer in ‘awe’ of LeBron James’ longevity in the game

The New York Knicks’ longtime announcer, Mike Breen was left amazed by the way LeBron James ‘has been going’ in the NBA even at 40. Given that, Breen remains totally confident regarding James’ dedication and longevity in the game. He spoke highly of the Lakers superstar in a recent interview with the New York Post.

“The way he’s going, I think we’ll be having this conversation in 2032 and 2033 as he gets to 47, 48. It’s worth mentioning on the broadcast, certainly, because there is that possibility, but because there’s no definitive retirement date yet for him, thankfully, it can’t be a major focus on the game.

James, who is the league’s all-time scoring leader and five-time NBA champion, has been an incredible leader in the Lakers’ 27-19 record this season. The Lakers phenom has been averaging 23.8 points, 9.0 assists, and 7.5 rebounds in 34.6 minutes per game. James had led them to sixth in the West alongside another star man, Anthony Davis.
