40-year-old Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James taking on 26-year-old Obi Toppin in mini dunk contest has fans in awe
Even though LeBron James is about to hit 40, the superstar has not lost the spring in his steps. In games, he usually goes for one or two-handed dunks to finish a drive. However, he has never participated in the NBA’s Slam Dunk competition to avoid injuries. However, he did not seem to back down from a mini-dunk contest against a much younger Obi Toppin.
Indiana Pacers star Obi Toppin was the beneficiary of LeBron James’ love for off-season workouts. But knowing the competitive nature of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar, the duo started putting up dunks. Toppin is a former Slam Dunk contest winner. Therefore, the 40-year-old was not going to back down and showed out with some highlight reel-worthy plays. All of this was captured and shared on social media that has since gone viral.
LeBron James has been strictly resting for more than a month ever since the Lakers exited the playoffs in the 1st round. Considering his commitment to conditioning and remaining fresh, that time off was crucial to help him recover.
But now the 4-time champion is training to get into shape ahead of the Olympics training camp. He will lead a team full of superstars, in a bid to reclaim Team USA basketball’s reputation as the best basketball team in the world.
LeBron James’ athleticism at this age has fans in awe
Usually, 40-year-olds do not jump that high, or more importantly, continuously on back-to-back attempts. They generally reserve their energy for that one leap to throw down the ball into the rim. However, everyone associated with basketball knows that LeBron James is one-of-a-kind when it comes to elite athletic ability.
Even knowing that watching the Los Angeles Lakers superstar take on the Indiana Pacers star was surreal to watch. No wonder fans could not keep their emotions bottled after watching the video. Check out some of those comments below;
